Pride Golf

Eight Camden’s Pride 4th graders took to the green to learn about the game of golf on July 14th. Mr. Reiter introduced students to the fundamentals of golf and guided them through tutorials about the different techniques golfers use.

The students began their lesson at the Taylor Pavilion, where they practiced how to properly hold the clubs and hit the ball. The students were excited as they began making contact and improving their swings. They later boarded the bus and headed to the driving range at Cooper River Park.

The instructors started the session with stretching exercises before splitting the group into smaller teams. Some students learned how to drive and use wedges, while others practiced putting.

One student, Saige Edwards, had an exciting moment during her first time at the driving range. Saige was able to hit the ball 100 yards, showing the progress and confidence students were building as they learned the fundamentals of golf.

“This was my first time playing, and I would love to play golf more,” said Saige Edwards.

Mr. Reiter shared his thoughts on the First Tee program and the growth he has seen from students.

“The program with First Tee is great. The kids are showing progress from week one to week two. They’re starting to understand the different types of clubs and starting to develop the physical skills needed,” said Mr. Reiter.

Many students are familiar with sports like football, basketball, soccer, and baseball. Through golf, students have the opportunity to learn something new, step outside their comfort zone, and discover another sport they may enjoy.
