Last night, Camden’s Promise Charter School held its annual Spring Concert. The jazz band, concert band, bucket drummers, and choir showcased their talents as they performed for parents and the school community. The program featured a wide range of musical selections, from The Overture of 1812 to songs by Billie Eilish. Middle school students proudly demonstrated the results of their hard work on stage.

The concert featured students from 5th through 8th grade, with each student participating in either band, jazz band, bucket drumming, or choir—reflecting the theme of “one school, one sound.” Doors opened at 5:30 PM, and many parents visited the art gallery, which displayed a variety of creative 2D and 3D student artwork showcasing their creativity and effort.

One of the highlights of the evening was the dedication of the music staff, including Mr. Cavanaugh, one of the band directors. “This was absolutely one of the best concerts we’ve ever put on,” he explained. “The band has grown to nearly 200 students now, and every single one of them did an amazing job.” Mr. Cavanaugh also shared that he looks forward to future concerts.

Also in attendance, Mr. Gonzalez, who is the band director for Camden’s Pride, was inspired by the display of talent. “The students did an amazing job, and I’m amazed to see so many students involved,” he said. “Now that we have our own elementary school band, seeing a concert like this can inspire students to follow in the footsteps of the older groups.”

Many of the students performing were doing so for the first time. One of those students was Ivan Caba, a 5th grader at Camden’s Promise. “It was tough, to be honest,” Caba said. “I was nervous at first, but I worked it out, and so did the band.” He also shared that he looks forward to performing again next year.

Deleyna Delgado, a 7th grader at Camden’s Promise, was another student performer. “I felt good performing in tonight’s concert. I had a lot of fun,” she said.

Overall, this year’s Spring Concert was one of the most creative yet at Camden’s Promise, and next year promises to be even brighter for the arts program.
