As we celebrated Women’s History Month in March, Camden’s Pride Charter School recognized the many contributions women have made to society through its annual Strong Women Day. For the past three years, the event has highlighted women who inspire those around them and continue to be a beacon of hope.
This year’s theme, “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future,” brought a meaningful focus to the celebration. Many teachers invited strong women from their own lives to speak with students, while classrooms held engaging activities designed to inspire and empower.
Ms. Brooke Albright, a third grade teacher at Camden’s Pride and the event’s organizer, shared more about the purpose behind Strong Women Day.
“This event is about empowerment,” she explained. “The lesson is to show students that women can be strong and powerful too.” She added, “This is meant to inspire students, especially girls, to dream big and make a positive impact on the world.”
The event began with students gathering in their classrooms, where they had the opportunity to listen, learn, and engage with the stories of inspiring women. One of the guests in attendance was Debbie Albright, Ms. Albright’s mother. She read Smart Cookie to the students and even made a batch of sugar cookies. We caught up with Mrs. Albright to get her thoughts on the day.
“I think the students learned a lot,” she said. “They loved the book Smart Cookie and even did crafts based on it. The story focuses on confidence, and that is something I hope they take away.”
One student who was inspired by the event was Argenys Delosangle, a fourth grader at Camden’s Pride. He experienced a sense of generational impact as his teacher, Ms. Foley, brought her mother and grandmother into the classroom. Students listened to their stories and shared meaningful moments together.
“I liked meeting Ms. Foley’s parents and asking them different questions,” Delosangle explained. “I also learned that her mother and grandmother are very important to her.”
Strong Women Day served as a reminder of the impact women continue to have and the importance of inspiring the next generation of leaders.
