Five seniors from Camden Academy Charter High School attended Rowan University's Think Like an Entrepreneur Summer Academy on July 6th. They joined students from high schools across New Jersey to learn about entrepreneurship, starting a business, and what it takes to build a successful company.
Throughout the four-day program, students participated in hands-on learning experiences focused on entrepreneurship, innovation, teamwork, and presentations.
For the past four years, Camden Academy business teacher Mr. Giunta has brought students to the summer academy, providing them with opportunities to expand their business knowledge while developing leadership and communication skills.
"This year's program gives students the opportunity to collaborate with other students their age from high schools across the state," said Mr. Giunta. "It helps them step out of their comfort zones, network with like-minded individuals, and build self-confidence that will benefit them in future business courses."
The academy began with icebreaker activities, including Rock, Paper, Scissors competitions and team-building exercises. Students completed puzzles, created a team quilt, and presented their work to a panel of judges, strengthening their communication, collaboration, and creative problem-solving skills.
Senior Jacob Matos volunteered to present his group's quilt and remained engaged throughout the guest speaker presentations.
"I truly think this was a great experience, and I had a great time connecting and networking with all the other students," said Matos.
Another senior, Angel Toro, also enjoyed the experience.
"I was unsure of how the seminar would begin, but I ended up having a wonderful time with great teammates, which made the experience even better," said Toro.
