Last night, families came together at Camden Academy Charter High School for the 2nd ImmSchools Multilingual Family Night, an evening filled with fun, food, and community engagement in celebration of World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. The event featured games and activities for all ages, along with valuable resources for those in attendance.

The evening began with families enjoying a variety of games, from dominoes to beanbag toss. There was also a painting corner where families spent time creating artwork together and enjoying one another’s company.

One of the discussion points that stood out was titled My Language, My Identity, highlighting the importance of language and culture in shaping identity and strengthening community connections.

Families were also treated to a special performance of Carnaval de Huejotzingo, adding music, tradition, and cultural celebration to the evening.

One of the parents in attendance was Mrs. Decasanova, who works at Camden Academy Charter High School and has attended several family nights before.

“I love that parents take the opportunity to spend time with their children,” she said. “We also get to know the parents a little better, and they get to see what we have to offer.”

Guest speaker Jose Fernandez from ImmSchools provided families with valuable information. Attendees were engaged and interactive throughout the discussion.

He explained, “Having an opportunity to talk is important. Talking about cultural wealth matters, and it gives us a chance to think about how we can support children through guided conversations. It’s about keeping culture alive and bringing it into the home—how we recognize and build on that cultural wealth.”

“I really enjoyed the family night,” a freshman at Camden Academy said. “It helped me learn more about my culture and where I come from.”

A special thank you goes to Ms. Urena for organizing a wonderful event that brought families together in celebration and community.
